Class Descriptions

Learn how to develop and map out a plan to identify and maintain quality services and products, areas for improvement, and how to achieve targeted goals.

Mastering the selection process for new textile products requires a keen understanding of how the product will perform for its intended use, the product lifespan, and how it will withstand the commercial laundering process. That starts with understanding components such as thread count, warp versus fill, along with the physical attributes of fibers and fabric.

Providing a safe working environment for textile care employees who produce hygienically clean textiles is job one. Learn about the chain of infection and the key elements of the wash process that provide microbiocidal action.

Knowing what you want is only half the battle but communicating that need clearly to the manufacturer/distributor is paramount. Learn how to develop solid specifications resulting in a more competitive bid process and how to apply cost calculations such as cost per use and cost benefit analysis to justify purchases.

Minimizing linen usage is dependent upon collaborative efforts among everyone along the linen cycle, including linen users. Identify high loss and usage areas through tracking, and target improvement with education and practice adaptations.

Data is the key to measuring efficiency. Managing the linen services department requires knowledge of key benchmarks in cost, usage, and replacement. Learn how these metrics are calculated as well as a systematic approach for replacement budgeting.

This class will provide insight into determining the appropriate par level, methods of delivery to the customer and how to maintain control over those products.

Reusable surgical textiles have gained attention in the past few years. This introduction to packroom textiles and processes will cover the levels of protection, required testing and creation of surgical packs.
