German research on textile processing

A good laundry processing operation develops a partnership with its customers. Time and effort spent to help a customer reach their goals is a wise investment. Laundry managers who take the time to understand the challenges that healthcare customers are facing today are better prepared to forge a partnership and realize the benefits of long term relationships for both parties.
CMS reimbursement changes and the publication of hospital infection rates have everyone focusing on managing infections. Hospitals are searching for opportunities to reduce Healthcare associated infections (HAI) and research projects abound. The CDC, our most reliable central resource, provides updates as new treatment practice come along, utilizing such resources as the HICPAC.

In a CDC publication they recommend laundries, not leave damp textiles or fabrics in machines overnight; most likely due to the ideal conditions for bacterial growth. This concept was addressed in research completed recently at the Hohenstein Institute in Germany. The project addressed the potential re-contamination by microorganisms of textiles that had been processed and provides an interesting approach to a solution. Read here their hypothesis and recommendations for a solution…

Is 2012 a Pivotal Year for Bed Bugs?

The challenge to select sustainable "green" textiles

As corporations are directed to become “green” and industry moves toward “sustainable” products how does one wade through the marketing to identify products that comply with their goals? One organization, NSF International began their efforts related to textiles in 2003 resulting in the release of the NSF/ANSI Standard 336 Sustainability Assessment for Commercial Furnishings Fabric. The NSF sustainability label guidance provides direction for woven, non-woven, bonded and knitted fabrics used for upholstery, vertical and decorative top of bed applications commonly used in institutional, hospitality and office settings. Details on the standards, their development, and identifying products that meet those standards can be found here.
